Last Saturday I travelled to Paris, to participate in the 4th edition of the Shibari School. These friendly meetings are organised by Jérome Gouvrion, and take place at his house in the suburbs of Paris.
Although this event is called the ‘Shibari school’, it’s not the intent to actually teach people how to “knot”. It’s more of a reunion where shibari artists of various skill level show the other participants their latest trick of the trade. Speaking of skill level, if you have two top shibari artists like Phillipe Boxis and Jérome present at the meeting, you can imagine the level of competence exhibited.
Model for the day ( our guinea pig or ‘cobaye’ ) was Mina, who’s an established French fetish model. She also enjoys shibari very much, and that adds even more to the relaxed atmosphere of the meeting.
First off was Phillipe Boxis, who suspended Mina to the ironwork in the ceiling. Most noticable about Phillipe’s work is how fast he works and how easy he makes it all look, but don’t be fooled, this is ‘top of the notch’.

Phillipe had installed a suspension ring, where he attached his ropes. This allowed him to turn Mina in any direction he wanted. While turning around Mina, I took a picture at very slow shutter speed to catch the movement, using the flash to freeze one moment of the movement. I bet the image would probably even looked better using ‘2nd curtain sync’ on my flash.

Technical question: How much weight can this suspension ring handle? Answer: A whole lot more than the feather weight of Mina!
